Organic Gardening on a Budget!

By Jerry J. Jansen On August 28, 2009 Under Organic Gardening

An organic garden is a great choice for those who want to eat healthier and are committed to taking the steps to do so. More and more people are turning to their own gardens so that they have a good supply of fruits and vegetables, and to also reduce the amount of money they spend on groceries. Organic gardening does cost a bit more than a conventional garden, but there are ways to produce a great garden on a budget.

Do your research to find out what grows best in your area. You‘re garden should be full of fruits and vegetables that are known for producing well within your climate. That way, you will not have to put in as much effort to get your produce to grow well. The money that you put into your garden will yield much better results. You’ll save money by not struggling to produce a plant that does not grow well in your climate.

Buy local organic produce from a farmer’s market if possible. Talk to the sellers to see what tips you can get on growing your own fruit and vegetables. While there are tons of websites dedicated to the subject, getting advice one-on-one from someone who is actually doing it is priceless. You can also use the seeds of many of the products you have been buying for your own garden, thus saving you money.

Another way to save money on your organic garden is to reuse and recycle by creating your own fertilizer. This can be done with leaves, decomposable garbage from the house, and grass clippings. You can even ask your neighbors if you can haul away their grass cuttings for free for use in your garden. Save money with your own fertilizer, and help the environment by recycling.

Organic gardening on a budget can be easily accomplished when you take your time. Read up on the Internet, borrow books from the library, and use what you have to grow the healthiest garden possible.
