Use Plants Native to Your Area!

Garden Plants When gardening, it can be tough to find plants that grow well in your individual climate. But with a bit of planning, you can grow a beautiful garden easily by using plants that are native to your area.

Native plants are already suited just for the landscape and the climate that they live in.
They will need less maintenance than other plants you may pick. This means less water at times, and little use of pesticides and fertilizer. A native plant will thrive as they will require very little attention to grow well. Another aspect of this is that since you will not need to use pesticides, you are doing your part in keeping the environment safe and clean.

Native plants will help your garden by providing lots of color and design opportunities. They will also become varied in their appearance, which will depend on the climate, temperature and precipitation. However, the native plants will “go with the flow”, and adapt to sudden changes in temperature and other environmental factors. They will be the easiest to grow since they are already adapted to the area.

Start your garden with your own native plants by doing your research first. You can go to your local nursery and seeing what plants grow well in your climate. You can also get an idea by paying attention to what others around you plant each year. For example, in states such as Pennsylvania, the daffodil is a perennial that will grow in almost any area. It is a native plant that is almost guaranteed to bloom, no matter what the conditions are, because it is already used to the climate and atmosphere. Check into your local library, read through gardening magazines or browse the Internet for more information on growing plants that are native to your area.
