Don’t Be So British – Get a Patio Awning

It’s absolutely true that the British weren’t interested in patio awnings until a few years ago. Nowadays more and more british homes are furnishing the gardens with all sorts of wonderful patio awnings that make life so much more bearable so read on and find out why they changed their minds.

Discovering Patio Awnings

It was on a long weekend trip to Amsterdam that I first discovered patio awnings. I was visiting my brother for a few days and the weather was truly wondeful. Each morning I had breakfast on the patio covered by a beautiful orange canopy and I was really impressed.

As soon as my brother discovered how much I loved the patio awning he was happy to show me that it was a motorised retractable awning and that he had it installed shortly after he bought the house.

He discovered patio awnings whilst in America and loved the fact that you could lounge around with the kids on the patio without the harmful rays of the sun getting at you. It was like being outside but inside at the same time. Getting an electric retractable patio awning was a great investment as it was really easy to retract when the wind started to pick up.

Now that I had been introduced to patio awnings and canopies I soon discovered that the vast majority of homes in Holland had them. Mainly because land was scare and the Dutch used their gardens a lot more than the brits.

Patio Awnings Have Now Invaded The UK

It’s absolutely true to say that pation awnings have invaded the UK. It was only ten years ago that I was in Holland finding out about the merits of pation awnings and now it seem that all the smart homes have one.

I’m truly not surprised as a patio awning makes a great touch to your home. If you have tried patio umbrellas you know how rubbish they can be, especially when you come out in the morning and find that the wind has pulled the umbrella down and smashed up your flower pots. You also have that never ending problem of needing a hole in the middle of the table. Thats fine if you want a conventional patio table but if what if you want something a little better to use as a patio table – how the hell do you get the umbrella to do the job then?

What happens when you have 10 or 15 friends around and you want to have lunch in the shade? The simplest thing is to go to the wall and push a button enabling your patio awning to unfold down over the tables. If you find the motorised version to be outside of your budget then the winding down one isn’t so bad, the main thing of course is that you get superb patio cover for those long weekends under the sun.
